The Civil Society Forum of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) will take place at the Riga Castle on May 20 and 21, 2022 to discuss issues relating to the 3SI priorities of connectivity, digitalisation, security and governance.
The participants of the 3SI Civil Society Forum will be addressed by H. E. Egils Levits, President of the Republic of Latvia; Evika Silina, Parliamentary Secretary of Prime Minister of Latvia, Tiit Riisalo, Ambassador-at-Large for Connectivity and 3SI, Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Janusz Pietkiewicz, member of the European Economic and Social Committee; and Edgars Bondars, Ambassador-at-Large for the 3SI, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
The aim of the Three Seas Initiative Civil Society Forum (CSF) is to provide a unique and fundamentally new platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge between civil society actors from participating Member States with a focus on long-term cooperation. The CSF provides a support mechanism for strengthening democracy, security and sustainability, building links of mutual benefit between Member States and their partners—both in and out of Europe. This means supporting civil society in the 3SI by protecting democratic principles and values, such as public participation in decision making, maintaining the transparency of political and economic decisions, and involving citizens in regional and European initiatives.
CSF participants will discuss topics important to 3SI societies, such as connectivity, digitalisation, security and governance. By identifying potential collaborations, challenges and existing projects, civil society representatives will draft recommendations that will be presented to 3SI leaders during the Riga Summit in June 2022.
The 3SI Civil Society Forum is organised by the Latvian Transatlantic Organization (LATO) in cooperation with the Chancellery of the President of Latvia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. The main partner of the conference is the Central European analysis and media platform, Visegrad Insight.
On May 21, the online forum will be available on the official event website, as well as the 3SI website, alongside the full event programme.
